life lately

2/24/25

it's been a while so figured now is as good a time as ever to give some updates. to whoever is reading this, hope you're doing well.

2025 has been a busy year for me. it's only been two months but it seriously feels like it's been at least five or six. i think this is because i've been trying to be more social than ever since it's my last semester of college.

i've been tweeting and doing this whole writing/crypto thing since mid-late 2021, my freshman year of college. people always joke that i'm still in college, but it only feels like a long time - i'm on track for a standard four year graduation.

i heard a saying somewhere: there are years where nothing happens and there are days where years happen.

that's how life has felt for me lately, and it's a lot of fun.

if you've kept up with my reading list at the front page of this site, i've been doing a lot of research. most of this writing just gets crammed into google docs, notebooks irl, and my personal obsidian drafts but i really want to write again soon.

there are a few ideas bouncing around my head, but if i can be honest here, i haven't found an angle for my decentralized training report yet.

a few others have put out really excellent work on the topic, specifically naman kapasi, sam lehman, and ronan - just off the top of my head - and i'm not sure how i'll compete with them, but it's a challenge i'm up for.

back when smac and i wrote the depin report, i'd found myself getting distracted with decentralized training and some of the decentralized AI protocols like prime intellect, gensyn, ritual, akash - i wanted to look at them closer but didn't really have the bandwidth.

at this point the "AI race" is at a bit of a crossroads. microsoft is cutting commitments on compute, almost every major lab is pivoting to reinforcement learning-enabled scaling versus their previous years' focus on acquiring more and more compute. the most recent grok model and its 200k GPUs used to train it was a good sign that maybe the mad dash for compute isn't really going anywhere, but it seems like sentiment is shifting very quickly.

i'm also interested in prediction markets, continuing my work on social media (like the character ai report), the manufacturing situation w/ respect to US and China, or working on something related to depin again.

there's a lot of low hanging fruit right now and no one "in crypto" is writing much at all, except for the occasional X article, and those don't count because they're kind of just glorified threads.

i've been a bit more disciplined with my work habits, staying on top of obligations, and trying to be healthier. i'm really looking forward to spring weather, because it's been maybe ten degrees on average everyday for the past month and a half which really sucks.

there's a lot that i need to get done, but i'm happy with where i'm at right now and hopefully in a month or so i can give everyone an update for my work plans post-grad.
