things i did today

11/10/24

i just got done working out for the 13th day in a row, which means tomorrow is day 14 for me of the "75 hard challenge." online it says you need to work out twice a day for at least thirty minutes each time, but that's a bit extreme so i just workout for an hour or more once a day.

earlier i went to see anora in 35mm and it was pretty good, and it's definitely my second favorite sean baker movie behind tangerine. i think toros (played by karren karagulian) was my favorite performance, which is probably the result of me really enjoying his performance in tangerine.

as part of the 75 hard challenge, im supposed to be reading a real, physical book every single day. i already do this pretty regularly so ive been trying to read at least 30-40 pages a day and finding i can read much more than that once i get into a rhythm. yesterday i bought a few books at the coffee shop and might get started on reading one of them tonight, which is a short story collection from f scott fitzgerald.

the reason im writing here instead of substack is because i worry my substack audience doesnt care about lighter writing like this - they only want the curve wars. ill be doing some technical writing on here but for now its easier to treat it like a daily diary that anyone can read.

i want to be writing really indepth reviews of articles or books im reading, with a lot of hyperlinks, quotes, and references, but thats a lot of work on top of doing the work of actually reading all of that. for now, its best to just get in the habit of writing every single day because if it works for building reading habits, it should carry over to writing, right?

ive also been taking a lot of supplements lately (stuff like zinc, taurine, berberine, magnesium, maca root, horny goat weed, bunch of others), and its becoming annoying having to take maybe 12-15 pills everyday after i eat. im drinking a lot of water too, and still refusing to drink soda (pop) because thats a rule i implemented for the 75 hard challenge.

ill admit it is annoying to not enjoy a beer after a long day, but im discovering more about myself and what hobbies i really enjoy doing, so hopefully the challenge helps me create some longterm habits.
